The Journal of Music in Ireland (JMI) is seeking a freelance podcast producer to support a new series of in-depth conversations on Irish music and culture.

JMI is an online magazine of independent criticism and commentary on Irish musical life. For 26 years, it has published essays, reviews and reporting across contemporary, traditional, classical, jazz and alternative music, and has built a substantial national and international readership. JMI is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.

We are now developing a pilot audio series to extend this work through long-form, thoughtful conversation.

Role overview
This is a freelance, project-based role to produce a series of 6–8 audio conversations (45–60 minutes each) between May and December 2026.

The podcast producer will take primary responsibility for the practical and technical delivery of each episode, working closely with the editor, who will conduct the interviews.

Key responsibilities
● Coordinate and schedule recordings with guests
● Manage all recording logistics (studio and/or mobile set-up in Galway)
● Set up and operate recording equipment
● Edit audio to a professional standard
● Prepare final audio files and undertake distribution on podcast platforms
● Provide basic supporting materials (e.g. episode descriptions)

Essential requirements
● Experience producing and editing podcast or audio content
● Ability to manage recording set-up independently (studio and/or mobile)
● Strong organisational skills and ability to manage scheduling and logistics
● High standard of audio editing
● Ability to work independently
● Based in Ireland

Desirable
● Knowledge of Irish music and the work of The Journal of Music in Ireland
● An interest in music, arts and cultural discussion
● Experience working with long-form conversation formats

Project details
● 6–8 episodes (May–December 2026)
● Each episode approx. 45–60 minutes
● Recording primarily in Galway (with some flexibility)

Fee
● €500 per episode, plus pre-agreed travel expenses where applicable.
